Our company headquarters is in the Westphalian town of Detmold.
We mention it here, because we are not ashamed to admit to the
prejudices that others have about people from our region. Westphalians
are supposed to be down-to-earth and keen on quality, straightforward
and honest, people who think ahead, and sometimes we are downright
stubborn.
And so we think we are exactly in the right locality in order to consistently
produce innovative and carefully thought-through, technically mature products.

• We have no production abroad, we produce here in the town with
  a high level of vertical integration.
  • We prefer to keep the core know-how in our firm; this
    creates a lasting basis for future innovations and high
    production quality - for competitive products.
  • As far as we can, we work with regional component
    suppliers. The short paths and the contacts built up over
    a long period allow us to make decisions quickly and have
    a direct influence on the quality.
  • The component at the heart of our bikes, the frame, we
    manufacture ourselves - in this we are the last of two
    manufacturers in Germany.
• We are out to train our staff, not to "outsource"!
  • Even though we are only a small company, we
    provide training; we try to retain our employees
    in the long-term and work towards a family atmosphere
    in the company . You as a customer will notice this in the
    shape of high product quality and excellent service.
• We use sustainable production methods in line with the motto:
  "quality before quantity"
  • We all work of necessity, but with us, bicycle building is
    a passion. We have our own solid financial base, we do
    not have to bow to the desire for profit of any outside
    investors and thus can decide ourselves 100% what our
    company policy is to be.
  • Here at BERNDS, we are happy to take innovations on
    board, but we check very thoroughly beforehand whether
    you as a customer are likely to gain any benefit from them.
    For instance, we have been using toothed belts for years as
    an alternative to chains; on the other hand, we swear by
    our steel frames which have stood up to technical and
    ecological tests.
  • Our bikes keep their value for many years, so we look on
    them not as a consumer article, but rather as an investment.
• We state our prices openly and honestly - with no discounts!
  • A price reduction can only be given by someone who has
    already put the discount on top of the normal price. The
    result is that all those customers who pay the regular price
    are paying too much! Instead of this, we calculate the
    same, fair price for all BERNDS buyers and manage without
    unfair discounts.
