It possesses all the characteristics that make it a BERNDS: robust, easy-running 20" wheels, sprung folding swingarm, and a solid steel frame produced in our own factory with a lifetime warranty.
In order to fold the BERNDS-Folding Tandem Lowstep tandem extra small, we have constructed an extra-strong hinge joint. This makes the Lowstep so compact that it fits in the boot of a VW Golf.
You don't even have to fold the rear seat down!
By the way: We are not the only ones who consider that our tandems have turned out well. In reputed trade magazines we reap the highest praise time and again for our two-seater!
- The BERNDS-Folding Tandem Lowstep is particularly compact and can be folded extra-small:
- In urban traffic, riding round tight corners is easy thanks to the somewhat shortened wheelbase. They are so agile that you quickly get the hang of riding them.
- On the trains belonging to the Federal Railway or in suburban trains they fit unfolded in practically all bike racks and compartments. For you this means: no stress when loading or unloading in a full bicycle compartment!
- For transport by car, the Lowstep can be folded so small with a few turns of the hand that it can be carried in the boot of a Golf – without having to fold the rear seat down!
- The BERNDS-Folding Tandem Lowstep is especially simple and safe:
- Due to the special steering geometry, the small wheels and the somewhat shorter wheelbase, even people with little practice can ride it safely.
- The very deep frame makes it easy to get on and off and ensures a low centre of gravity.
- The unusually wide and stable tyres provide more contact with the road surface and ensure sufficient reserves of grip when braking and efficient damping.
- On all our tandem models we fit high-quality brakes; the hydraulic disc brakes which we particularly recommend ensure short braking distances even in the wet.
- The Lowstep's maximum payload is 260 kg! Perhaps you will never make full use of this payload but you will always notice the safety reserve you have in hand.

- Suitable for riders of between 1.40 and 2.10 m tall – and thus the ideal family tandem.
- Each Lowstep rider can adjust his own handlebars and saddle independently of the others.
- Due to the low frame tubes, the disabled can ride along comfortably, too.
- With a weight of 20 kg and upwards, our Lowstep is among the lightest on the market – even with its enormous safety reserves!

- The Lowstep is also available with a particularly efficient electric drive; with it, you can ride in the mountains, with no sweat!
- As with all BERNDS, all standard-size handlebars, stems and seatposts fit the Lowstep.
